Top it with a tomato: Tasty ways to celebrate National Salad Month

Its easy to drink more calories than are in an average meal with the frozen mocha coffee coolatta with cream at Dunkin Donuts, weighing in at 730 calories. By the time you add on a donut or two, you could have eaten a breakfast platter. Burger Kings is 1,450 while McDonalds is 1,350.

Smaller isnt always better. The 10-piece bag of original recipe chicken bites at KFC is a whopping 1,300 calories. An order of 20 chicken rings at White Castle is 1,760. A slice of meat lovers pan pizza at Pizza Hut seems reasonable at 470 calories, but who really sticks to just one slice?

This doesnt mean that lower calorie fast food items arent available. Check out the nutritional information on the restaurants website before ordering.

'Biggest Loser' contestants TC and Nathan talk about Jillian and that red line (Video)

This week on The Biggest Loser, not one but two members of Jillian Michaels team were eliminated (three if you include Nikki, who just up and quit the show). On Thursday afternoon, we talked on the phone with the two contestants who found themselves on the wrong end of the red line Nathan Montgomery and TC Pool and asked them about working with Jillian and the red-line elimination.

Q. Jillians back and tougher than ever. Were we seeing the TV Jillian, or did you all get to experience like the softer side of Jillian?

Nathan: "What you're seeing on TV is the real deal. There are two sides of her. There's in the gym, and she can tell when you're not motivated. She can tell when you're not in it. So when that's the case, you get the really mean Jillian -- the one that's in your face pushing you. That's all absolutely, 100 percent real. But you can see in episode two, when you really commit yourself to her and commit yourself to the process, she knows that you're pushing yourself and she doesn't have to push you like that, so she lightens up and she's there as your teammate, and to push you in different ways. She's a very multifaceted trainer and those are just two of her types, both of which are very effective and 100 percent real."

TC: "I agree with what Nathan said. I only got to have that one week with her, so I got to see the really intense Jillian and I got to see it when you're not doing as well as you should and how intense she can get, and also when you do everything she asks and how pleased with you she is at the end. She's very intense and she definitely cares, but I'm sure if I was there longer I would have seen even more of a less intense Jillian as it went on. But she does what she needs to do to get you to find the motivation in yourself."

Q. In the past, especially early on, there has been contestant elimination through the elimination room and people picking names, but this time around both times there was the red line. How do you feel about the red line vs. the elimination room?

Nathan: "For me I was happy that I didn't have to vote anybody home because we were all a big family and I loved everybody there. It was like going to war with these people - there's no real tighter bond than that. The red line -- it's unfortunate I didn't really get a chance to fight for myself to stay, but it is what it is. I was really sad that it was on week two, because week two is so unpredictable on the Biggest Loser ranch. So I just became a victim of the week two jinx with the red line. That was just a deadly combination."

TC: "The red line definitely takes game play out of it, or takes a lot of that stuff that might break up a team's chemistry, so I like the idea of the red line. Interview: Jillian Michaels on bringing Bodyshred to Canada & her health 'why'

Jillian Michaels recently visited Toronto to launch her new Bodyshred program at GoodLife Fitness clubs. Afterward, she answered some questions for Examiner readers.

Crystal Moore: What would you say to someone who was intimidated to try Bodyshred because of the hardcore reputation you've received from The Biggest Loser?
Jillian Michaels: They shouldn't be. Bodyshred isn't easy, but anything that brings tremendous change and takes you to the next level isn't. That being said, a Bodyshred class at the gym is not THE BIGGEST LOSER. I only use the tough love tactics when all else has failed and at that point, yes, they are necessary. Often I'm dealing with life or death stakes and need to create a breakthrough as quickly and intensely as possible. Tough love works for some, but the truth is that each person is different and requires a different approach to motivation. If tough love is required to get an adult to have a life-saving breakthrough, then it is what I will give them.

CM: Is Bodyshred an in-gym version of your 30-Day Shred DVD? Can it provide the same lose 20 pounds in 30 days results?
JM: Bodyshred incorporates the same philosophies as my best-selling DVD titles Ripped in 30 and 30 Day Shred. If you do it 4 to 5 times a week and watch your diet, then you absolutely can get stellar incredible results.

CM:Will the classes have modifiers for all the moves (for anyone unable to jump, etc.)?
JM: Yes. The Bodyshred program has 12 factors of change that are used to progress and regress the workout so it suits all levels. Just like my DVDs, all moves can be modified into harder or easier versions, so both the beginner and advanced athlete gets an incredible workout.

CM: What made you want to work with GoodLife Fitness?

Why do you want to get fit and healthy? Do you want to play soccer with your kids? Or get healthy so you can live to walk your daughter down the isle? CM: If you ever feel unmotivated to get up & go to the gym, what do you do?
JM: I think about my own why. I want to be healthy and fit for my kids. I want to be a good example for them and set them off on the right path with healthy habits. Another trick I use is my fifteen minute rule. On the days I just don't feel like working out, I tell myself to just do it for fifteen minutes. If after fifteen minutes, I'm still not feeling it, I can stop. But once I'm in my workout clothes and have been sweating for fifteen minutes I realize that I'm already that far into my workout and always decide to go ahead and get the rest of it in.
Works every time.

Stir in a packet or two of Splenda, mix thoroughly and freeze until the consistency of frozen yogurt. Guilt-free, good-for-you bliss at less than 100 calories!
  • Bacon: Think that bacon is forbidden? Go for it by choosing low-fat turkey bacon. Look for a brand that has 30 to 50 calories per serving. Then cut the grease and the guilt by using the Presto PowerCrisp microwave bacon cooker, which magically cooks up crisp, crunchy bacon while removing all the grease.
