Demi Moore halts Lovelace film after seizure triggered by anorexia

Demi Moore recently has been looking increasingly gaunt and frail, and the Daily Mirror says that the too-slender star is undergoing treatment for "anorexia as well as other issues that caused her seizure," which resulted in a rush to the hospital.

March: National Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month and a great time of year to re-evaluate the way youre eating. Cheryl Forberg, RD, returning to 'The Biggest Loser' as show's nutritionist

NBC is trying to return "The Biggest Loser" to its glory days with key people who made the show a hit. First, trainer Jillian Michaels surprised everyone with the news that she was returning for season 14, and now Cheryl Forberg, RD, let us know over the weekend that she will also be returning to the show, which premieres in January.

Forberg had been the show's nutritionist for seven years, but left after season 12 and was replaced by registered dietitian Rachel Beller, who had previously worked on the Oxygen show "Dance Your Ass Off."

Forberg had been living the life of an "urban farmer" on her Napa, Calif., farm when she got a call from the producers of "The Biggest Loser" asking her whether she'd like to return to the show.

"They called me to return for season 14, and I said yes," Forberg said in an e-mail Sunday afternoon.

We caught up with Forberg and asked her about the upcoming season of the show and what else has been on her plate.

Q. What brings you back to "The Biggest Loser"?

A. The show called me last month to ask me back and I said yes! Six months ago, it would have been different, but I just finished a new book (about quinoa) and was in between projects. The timing was perfect.

Q. How does it feel to have you, Bob and Jillian (as well as Dolvett) back together?

A. We have never all been on the same season, so this is a first -- very exciting!

Q. What have you been doing in your "off season?"

A. Right after I left the show (after season 12) an acquisitions editor from Wiley called and asked me to write a gluten-free book about quinoa. Since it has 150 recipes, I have been very busy this year, but I just turned in the manuscript, and the book will be published Jan. 7.

Q. Have you met the teen participants?

A. Yes I have, and America is going to love them! I wanted to take them all home with me.

Q. How will season 14 be different than past seasons?

A. I really don't know about the storyline(s) -- I like to be surprised, too. But I have met the cast and they are fantastic. I love them all already.

Q. Shame on Doctor Oz and his program on cutting your carb cravings

We all know that diabetes is a life-threatening disease, and is most often associated with obesity. But did you know that diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the U.S.? Did you know that it kills more people each year than breast cancer and AIDS combined? (as reported in the Oct 28-Nov 3, 2012 of American Profile magazine) And the key for diabetics is to control their diet, especially the number of carbohydrates they eat. Carbs play an extremely important role in regulating blood sugar levels, and this is most critical for a diabetic.

So you would think that on a program that totally focused on carbohydrates, as todays (October 31) Doctor Ozs TV program did, that there would be the mention of diabetes, given the importance of carbs in the diabetics diet. But, there was not one word! The title of todays show was Cut your carb cravings, and featured personal trainer and transformation specialist, Chris Powell. You may have seen him on the television program, Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. I have seen that show, and he is a good trainer for his clients. Chris started out by saying that carbs are the root of all obesity. He should have clarified that unrefined carbs can play an important role in weight control and blood sugar levels, especially for diabetics. But he didnt, and neither did Doctor Oz.

Notwithstanding the obvious omission of the connection between carbohydrates and diabetes, Powell did provide some interesting information. For example, one of the reasons why people overeat carbs is other peoplewe eat because of cues from others and we want to fit in. Another reason is hypno-bingeing, or eating out of boredom. Finally, eating out is a key reason why people are obese. The food is often cheap, and portion sizes have grown by more than 100 percent over the past thirty years. Despite the media hype that has people confused about carbs, we cannot cut out carbs. They are a source of energy, and our bodies need them.

Powells solution to the carb overload is the 7-day carb diet plan, where you cycle between high- and low-carb days. This might be fine for a person with no health problems, but for diabetics, it could spell disaster that endangers their health and lives. This diet plan, though, included a shocker, the seventh dayyour cheat day. Here you are, good all week, watching your diet, and then you can blow it by up to 1000 calories in carbs that are high in sugar? Since when does that make good sense? It is like taking two steps forward and then three steps backward. A fat reducing overview can help you produce a clear describe of what you need to focus on to achieve your fat reducing purpose if you're a rookie; or serve as a reminder for these who are at an advanced or more advance stage of their weight loss strategy. Applying are seven steps that can serve as methods for your own weight loss plan. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not the same thing. Many weight loss plans have fooled people into thinking that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss programs only work by resulting in a person's body to burn more muscle flesh and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. That extra calorie intake over a year can result in a weight gain of 15 pounds, if nothing else changes. Since Powell is neither a medical doctor nor a nutritionist, this weight watcher is skeptical as to the scientific and medical basis for his plan. Doctor Oz seemed to endorse it, though.

Doctor Oz, my faith in your judgment is severely compromised, and your not even mentioning diabetes has totally caused me to be even more skeptical about what you say.

You still left hanging an answer to the question: What IS the right number of carbs to have in your diet? For diabetics, that is often between 60 and 120 grams of carbs in a day, depending on the severity of the disease. Of course, the exact number is something that needs to be discussed with your doctor. Just roughly calculating the carbs in the five small meals in the diet plan, it appeared to exceed 120, and that was just for the starchy carbs (breads, pasta, etc.). Unfortunately, when you check out Chris Powell's recipes on Doctor Oz's website, you will not find the number of carbs in them.

People need to educate themselves on what constitutes a healthy diet, the difference between simple and complex carbohydrates, and the role carbs, proteins, and fats play in a diet. Just because a famous doctor says something or does not say something, does not make it so. Check out the facts for yourself.

P90X: The post-program review

If youve been following me on my P90X adventure since January, youve read the 30-day and 60-day updates with my thoughts on how my husband and I have been progressing on the program. The first month was about getting used to the moves, learning the combinations and incorporating the workouts into our busy schedules. Month two came in like a lion, sending us both reeling when trainer Tony Horton changed up the routines, spiked the intensity and put our bodies into a tailspin trying to adapt.

The third and final month was less about misery and more about mastery. By this time, P90X was ingrained into our lifestyle, and I began to look forward to each workout again. Tony changes it up this last portion of the program by staggering previous workouts. So whats the final verdict? I have to hand it to P90X for delivering an impressive home workout that both kicks your butt and whips it into great shape. Not only did I feel great upon finishing the program (and have the ability to do a record number of push-ups and pull-ups), but on several separate occasions both my husband and I have received comments on how toned and muscular our arms and backs have become.

One thing thats important to note is that, as with any program, the results you can expect are directly proportional to the effort you put in. P90X is no different, so unless youre ready to commit to it and establish a disciplined schedule, save your money. The DVD set does no good if its going to sit on your shelf collecting dust.

  • Simple to follow Workouts are well-explained and straightforward, plus the moves arent complex
  • You dont need a lot of equipment Grab weights (or bands), a mat and pull-up bar, and youre good to go

Things to be aware of before starting the program:

  • A definite investment Expect to rearrange your schedule and spend some money on equipment
  • Strict diet plan It can be tough to stick to a strict workout schedule and very specific diet plan, so you can always start with workouts and weave the diet into round two
  • Extreme, even for the experienced Be careful! There are some tough moves, and even the recovery weeks are active, so start slow and ramp up as you go to prevent injury
  • Can get repetitive 90 straight days of anything can get tedious, so plan on giving yourself a break before repeating

How To Make Apple Cinnamon Whey Protein Bars

Ingredients:
Dry:
2 cups of Core Whey Active Vanilla (purchase from http://www.purebodynutrition.net/protein.php) or call us at 903-939-9232 for even better deals.

1 & 1/2 cups of oatmeal - grind it down to powder (should be about 1 cup once it is done)
Cinnamon and Splenda (or other no calorie sweetener) to taste I used 2/3 cup Splenda
Wet:
1 & 1/3 cups of natural, unsweetened apple sauce
2/3 cup of almond (or soy) milk
1/3 cup of egg whites

Directions
Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl
Slowly add wet ingredients until all is combined and you have a nice cake-like batter
Coat a cake or bread pan with cooking spray or cover with tin foil
Pour batter and bake @ 275 until the center is cooked to the desired firmness

Because the only eggs in this batter are egg whites you dont have to worry about undercooking and getting sick (only egg yolks bring a fear of Salmonella poisoning) if you want your bars more chewy dont cook for very long.

Joy for Jessica Simpson: her baby girl has arrived!
