Losing weight has been suggested to help reverse Type 2 diabetes. If you are trying to lose weight, it may be difficult to find breakfast foods that fill you up as well as help you to lose weight. Here is a modified Weight Watchers recipe that satisfies your hunger and tastes good, too.

Apple Cinnamon Pancakes:

  • 1 cup Krusteaz pancake mix
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 medium apple, peeled and grated
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Add all items together in a bowl, and whisk until mixed well. Pancake mix will be slightly lumpy.

For each pancake, pour half a cup of batter onto hot griddle. Flip when edges look dry.

Cook on flip side for 1-2 minutes. Remove from griddle.

These pancakes taste great plain, but you can top with unsweetened applesauce if desired.

To make these pancakes even more filling, add 1/4 cup old-fashioned (not instant) oats.

Cinnamon can help lower your blood sugar if you're diabetic, while the oats are good for your heart. If you make these ahead of time and freeze them, they are a good snack to grab and go as well. Just heat in the microwave for about a minute (times may vary with microwave ovens). Enjoy!

After losing 100 lbs, Kirstie Alley tells her diet secrets and recipes to Dr. Oz (Video)

Now, after years of weight wars, Kirstie has lost 100 pounds. Dr. Mehmet Oz interviewed her on his show today to reveal just how Kirstie finally won her battle of the bulge. In 2009, Kirstie weighed 230 pounds, according to the Huffington Post. She went through weight loss successes...and failures. Then, in 2011, Kirstie credited a combination of "Dancing with the Stars" and her own diet program, Organic Liaisons, for her successful weight loss of 100 pounds (learn more about Kirstie's Scientology-linked program by clicking here). Asked by one of Dr. Oz's viewers how she motivates herself today to stay on her plan and exercise, Kirstie says she dances, adding, "If I dance, that always makes me really happy." And Kirstie revealed her secret for fighting cravings for sweets: "Switch to agave and mix with stevia," she said. Agave and stevia are natural sweeteners that some use to replace sugar to reduce the calories, and Kirstie says the combination is "really yummy."

In addition, Kirstie dished out some delicious recipes that help her stay slim. Her breakfast wrap is filled with fiber to keep you full all day (click here for the recipe), while the low-calorie tortilla soup (see below) is ideal for a satisfying lunch. As noted in the ingredients list here, you can serve it with avocado to add healthy fats.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups chicken stock
  • 1 tsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 jalapeno thinly sliced
  • 2 8-oz organic chicken breasts (skinless and boneless)
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 onion, halved, then thinly sliced into half moons
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 avocado thinly sliced
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 2 corn tortillas

Directions: Preheat oven to 350F. Brush the corn tortillas with olive oil, sprinkle with a pinch of cumin and chili powder and then cut into 1/4 inch strips. Place tortillas on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake for 5 to 10 minutes until crispy and browned. In a large pot, bring the chicken stock, chili powder and cumin to a boil. Add the jalapenos, chicken breast, tomatoes and onions. Reduce heat to a simmer and gently cook for about 15 minutes. Remove the chicken and set aside to cool enough to handle. Shred chicken into bite-size pieces and return to simmering soup for another few minutes. Serve with chopped cilantro, avocado slices and the crisped tortilla chips.

What does the Duchess of Cambridge have to offer weight watchers?

Well, did you hear the news? The Duchess of Cambridge, AKA Kate, the wife of Prince William, is pregnant. You are probably thinking, Well, la-di-da. It will be interesting to see how she dresses over the next nine months through the weight gain. Unfortunately, her condition, hyperemesis gravidarum, is rare, and can cause weight loss as well, which would not be good for the baby or the mother.

"The whole world is watching my stomach," Princess Diana once said. And so will we of Kateyou know, all of us who are envious of Kates figure already. But, back to the question, What does this have to do with us? A lot, actually. Here is a woman who manages to keep her weight in check, despite what for most of us would be terrible temptationsall those events and dinners to attend. And now she is pregnant.

Some of the things we can do to motivate us as we follow her pregnancy are:

1. Watch how she wears flattering clothes as her pregnancy progresses. What are you wearing right nowis it sloppy, too big, too tight? Kate is the top fashion icon in the world, so it wouldnt hurt to follow some of her cues (and it has nothing to do with age).

2. Watch for articles on how she is maintaining good healthy eating habits through all this. (Just skip the part about eating for two!) Also, take note of any reports on exercise that she might be doing.

3. Finally, once the baby has arrived, what will she do to get back to her pre-baby weight? (Isnt that always the question?) And even better, how LONG will it take her to get there? Admit it--inquiring minds want to know!

The public has placed a huge expectation on hershe must look great at all times when in public (not a bad goal for any of us, actually). Whatever she does, it will be inspiration for all of us struggling to lose weight. We wish her a safe pregnancy and a speedy return to her pre-baby weight.

I know were all looking for the magic bullet to follow when it comes to eating well for health, longevity, and fat loss, so today Im going to give you 10 powerful tips can incorporate into your daily nutrition.


If you follow these tips the majority of the time you will be well on your way to increased health and a smaller waistline.


Lets get right into it:

Tip 1: Raw is Better




As people age it becomes more difficult to digest food and extract the nutrients needed for proper energy, health, and longevity. The good news is that the closer your food is to its original form (in most cases) the easier it is to digest since cooking tends to destroy many natural enzymes contained within the food.

Tip 2: No More White Stuff




If all you did was cut out all the white stuff in your diet (except cauliflower ; ) youd be WAY ahead of the game. This means going a starch and sugar free diet.

Tip 3: Try Going Gluten Free




After working with thousands of online and studio clients its become apparent that many people have a low-level gluten (gliadin) allergy that they dont even know about. When they cut out gluten based foods they end up feeling so much more clear-headed, energetic, less bloated, and healthy. You can give it a shot by substituting quinoa, millet, or amaranth for your healthy non-gluten carb cravings.

Tip 4: Small Meals




Remember that tip I gave you a little while back on using one cupped hand for your snacks and two cupped hands for your meals? Stick with that natural serving size and youll feel lighter and will lose weight naturally, and since youll be eating every 3 hours theres no worrying about starving

Tip 5: Eating Breakfast




I know many people dont feel like eating in the morning, but I highly recommend it for boosting your metabolism and adding some fuel to your body for the day. Tip 7: How Much Meat Do You Need?




Over the years Ive been decreasing my meat consumption and opting for wild-caught fish the majority of the time. However, I still do eat meat a few times per week since it gives me energy and keeps my body strong. I will say, though, that there is never an occasion where you need to chow down 8oz or more of meat (especially red meat). Its just far too hard to digest and its more toxic than beneficial. Stick with more white meats and opt for 3-6oz per meal its all you really need.

Tip 8: Fruit is Good For You Sometimes




Ive written many articles on this topic and its quite controversial. Yes, eating fruit has many benefits, but it also contains fructose. This means unless you want to spike your insulin levels its best to eat your fruit directly after physical exercise (breakfast may be fine for some people as well).

Tip 9: Its NOT about Calories or Counting Points




Its about controlling insulin levels and eating high quality food, which is nutrient-dense in nature. Do you really believe that someone who drank 2,000 calories of Coca-Cola per day would look like another person who consumed 2,000 calories of fresh vegetables, lean protein, healthy fats, and low-glycemic carbs? It think not.

Tip 10: Dont Diet




If dieting to you means doing something drastic for 3-4 weeks and then just going back to eating how you used to, you need to start with a shift in your mindset first True health benefits and fat loss can only be maintained through healthy lifestyle change. Begin to look at eating healthier as something positive youre doing for yourself not what youre depriving yourself of.

Gourmet Dining on a Slowing Metabolism

Todays retirees have many more options how to spend their golden years than any generation before them. Baby boomers, especially those who are well off, can satisfy their curiosity and adventurous spirit by exploring new business endeavors, continuing their education or traveling around the world. Some discover new passions and acquire new skills they never had time for while working.

One of those late pursuits that is rapidly gaining in popularity is gourmet dining, both at home and at restaurants. Interest in advanced cooking classes has never been greater, not to mention the high ratings for food shows and competitions between celebrity chefs on TV. The auditoria of culinary institutes around the world are filled with students in their sixties, seventies and beyond, eager to familiarize themselves with the latest trends and techniques in the world of haute cuisine.

Fine wining and dining has always been a prerogative of those who like (and can afford) to indulge in the better things life has to offer, but today its a whole different ballgame. In an article for the New York Times (12/28/2011), Charles Isherwood, a food writer, describes his parents (both retired) as foodies for whom eating well has become their lives mission. My parents practically live to eat, he writes. Of course, besides being tremendously pleasurable, fine dining also conveys an aura of culture and sophistication (not to mention exclusiveness due to oftentimes ridiculous pricing). However, many food lovers also seem to think that eating at the best restaurants or cooking with the most expensive ingredients automatically means their diet is healthy. But this is not necessarily true.

Gourmet chefs typically focus on taste and presentation. Calorie counts and fat contents are not their primary concern. The individual portions may look small compared to lower-end eateries with their all-you-can-eat value offers, but if you order three, four or more courses, you end up with a similarly large amount of food in your stomach.

You may say, well, its only on rare occasions that you go all out like that. But what about eating out three times a day when you travel? What about a cruise where limitless access to great food is one of the perks?

The unfortunate truth is that as you get older and have more time and funds to indulge a little more than you used to, your metabolism begins to slow down. In fact, it slows down about 5% to 10% every decade or so, beginning in your mid-twenties. This means that the typical American loses between 20% and 40% of metabolic power over the course of his or her lifespan, according to Dr. John Berardi, best-selling author of The Metabolism Advantage.

The reasons are easy to understand: Your metabolism converts calories into energy. When your calorie intake is higher than your energy expenditure, weight gain occurs. As you grow older, it becomes harder to maintain a healthy calorie-energy balance because your lifestyle probably becomes more sedentary and your physical activities get less strenuous. Another result is age-related muscle loss. Diminishing muscle mass means that fewer calories are being burned off and your metabolism slows down. While this is an inevitable, natural process, there are things you can do to prevent it from happening too fast.

The best way to counteract muscle loss is weight training. Lifting weights does not only add muscle, it also burns off calories even while you rest afterwards. Doing aerobics, of course, also helps with calorie burn. People who are said to have a faster metabolism are probably just more physically active all day.

Not surprisingly, adherence to healthy eating habits also matters more with age. Your calorie requirements may go down, but your need for high-quality nutrients remains the same throughout your life. Simple but nutrient-dense foods are the best choices for a healthy, age-appropriate diet such as fresh fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, whole grains, fish, lean meats and low-fat dairy products.

So, before you try out your next culinary sensation downtown or at home, keep in mind that your health is too important to throw all caution to the wind, just because you can.
