Tra-la, it's May, the magnificent month of May. Flowers bloom, warm breezes bring out the butterflies and going barefoot in the grass feels like bliss. And to cap off these delights of spring, it's National Salad Month. Before you bring on the iceberg lettuce, how about celebrating it with some different twists on the traditional salad?

We recommend:

  • If you like potato salad, try a healthy version by boiling and cooling red potatoes. Cut in chunks, and then mix with a dressing made of plain Greek yogurt mixed with fat-free sour cream, a dash of Italian herbs and chopped-up scallions. Serve with sliced fresh tomatoes and black olives on top for a fabulous dish with fewer calories, fat and salt then the regular version. For variety, use the richly flavored Roland Kalamata Halves Olives, which contain healthy fats (click to order).
  • Indulge in a variety of fresh fruit, sliced and diced. Mix with vanilla non-fat yogurt combined with a dash of cinnamon and a dash of ginger, and serve your fancy fruit salad as a healthy substitute for dessert this May. For added flavor, vitamins and minerals, top with diced Bare Fruit 100% Organic Bake-Dried Apples, Fuji, which contain no added sugar (click for details).
  • Turn a salad into a main meal by piling assorted types of lettuce into a bowl and topping with a mixture of beans (garbanzo, black beans and kidney beans, for example). You'll get protein and fiber. Serve with a choice of salad dressings, from Olive Garden Signature Italian Dressing (click for details) to the delicious easy-to-make Homemade Dressing Mix Variety Pack (French Garden, Napa Garden & Italian Garden) - click to order.
  • Speaking of salad dressings: If you regularly use mayonnaise-type dressings, beware of the added calories and fat. A fat reduction review can help you establish a clear summarize of what you require to focus on to achieve your fat loss purpose if you're a rookie; or serve as a reminder for those who are at an intermediate or more boost level of their losing weight program. Applying are seven steps that can serve as tips for your special weight loss system. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not exactly the same thing. Many weight loss applications have misled people into wondering that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss programs only work by resulting in a person's body to reduce more muscle tissue and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. Indulging in these types of dressings can add as much as 400 calories to that supposedly virtuous salad! Highly recommended: O-calorie, 0-fat Walden Farms mayonnaise, in flavors like Chipotle.
