Author of "The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman," Tim Ferriss knows the secrets to shedding pounds fast. Now this expert at teaching healthy diet habits has taken it to the kitchen with a new book, "The 4-Hour Chef: The Simple Path to Cooking Like a Pro, Learning Anything, and Living the Good Life," published on Nov. 20. Tim offers up these tips to achieving your best body and life:

  • Go for the 30/30 rule. Consume 30 grams of protein, such as a protein shake, within the first 30 minutes of waking up. Tim says this guideline revs up your metabolism and prevents you from overeating later in the day. In addition, a protein-rich diet keeps you full longer and maximizes weight loss, according to studies. Tim recommends protein powder consisting of whey protein isolate.
  • Boost your energy by drinking a small glass of grapefruit juice before you gulp down your morning coffee. This citrus wake-up call extends coffee's energizing boost.
  • Do you experience a mid-morning slump? Tim suggests a fermented soybean paste called natto. By taking two to three tablespoons daily or consuming a 100 mg supplement three times a day, you can aid digestion and reduce your risk for blood clots and Alzheimer's.
  • Portion control is key to losing weight. Tim's tip: Paper cups! "Cut a paper coffee cup in half and use it as a cylinder to measure and present food," says Tim. "For instance, place chicken salad or cooked rice in the cylinder, press down slightly and then unmold. By stacking your food this way, youll shave off calories and enjoy a nice presentation."
  • Enjoy avocados for healthy fat, says Tim. However, he advises avoiding artificial sweeteners. Instead, sweeten drinks and foods with a dash of cinnamon or vanilla.
