In last night's Episode 8 of the Biggest Loser, the focus is on team work - both the red vs. black team, but also the couple teams who came to the Ranch together. Two players would be eliminated this week, one falling below a red line and one chosen from the team losing the weigh-in. The red team continues to dominate during workouts, but the black team continues to dominate on weigh-in day. Both teams are nervous about the red line and stress over the little things now. Trainer Cara encourages them to "get all of that agression out" and it is a "do or die" situation now. Well, kind of.
Brutal workouts as the red team goes to a new facility to train and the bulk of their training consists of punching, kicking and sparring. The black team continues their cardio push workouts with Jillian sitting on top of the machines watching them. Some great lines:
- Trainer Brett, describing what his team needs to do after a set-back, "Life fights back. Show your ability to get back up and fight"
- Dad Jesse, always pushing "We put limitations on ourselves by talking about the things we cannot do"
- Courtney, always positive "If I believe I can do it, I can" as Jillian challenges her to take it to a whole 'nother level on the treadmill
- Trainer Jillian, after pushing the black team to run new speeds on the treadmill "This is a life-changing moment. Now you have a glimpse of your potential. You can do anything with the right attitude and the right tools. What else in your life are you doing half-assed?"
Ouch, did that one hit home?
The physical [and emotional] challenge this week was juggling balls. Big balls. Juggling big balls across the length of a football field. It's not as easy as it might appear. The black team struggles to keep the balls from hitting the ground. Again and again. The red team, after a few fumbles, brings out it's unstoppable team work and strategy and easily wins the challenge, winning a 3 lbs. advantage in the weigh-in. The teams learn that juggling balls is hard work. A fat reducing review can help you establish a clear outline of what you require to focus on to carry out your fat loss goal if you're a novice; or serve as a reminder for the ones who are at an advanced or more enhance stage of their weightloss program. Applying are seven steps that can serve as instructions for your special weight loss plan. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not the same. Many weight loss applications have tricked people into believing that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss plans only work by leading to a person's body to eliminate more muscle flesh and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. So is life.
And so the talk turns to competition in the black team - how can they assure the right people stay in the game? They start strategizing and decide that the parents should take the fall for the kids, in order to keep them at the ranch. Two parents in particular, Deni and Marci, emphasize that they want to put their child's needs first and are willing to sacrifice their needs. But Jesse doesn't think so. Jesse has always been outspoken on the game play aspect of the Biggest Loser and tells them angrily, "Just because I'm an old man, you don't throw me out with the wind". He refuses to compromise, or so we thought.
Weigh-in day arrives and the results are shown. All three parents on the black team played the game, even Jesse. Marci purposely gained 1 lb, Jesse purposely gained 3 lbs and Deni purposely gained 8 lbs. That's a lot of water! The parents justify their "weight gain" by saying they did what was necessary to save their kids from going home. Contrast this to a parent on the red team - Moses and his daughter Kaylee. Moses knew that both of them were at risk this week, esp his daughter. He made the decision to get up early and get his sleep-loving daughter up early all week so that they could get in an additional workout. He made a sacrifice too. But he didn't have to sacrifice his own health to do it. And their results were good, Moses lost 11 lbs. and Kaylee lost 7 lbs. Moses emphasizes "You give everything you have. Giving in doesn't teach kids to face their obstacles".
Very poignant words as both Deni and Jesse go home. Deni continues to lose weight at home, a total of 86 lbs. She changes her eating habits and is able to play with her grandchildren. Jesse also continues his weight loss, as well as getting his diabetes under control. He looks great as he gets a group together "Walking with Jesse" and leaves us with "You can do whatever you want to do. The key is you have to want it". Do you want it?
