Taking no lip: National brands get their mo-jo on as Movember closes

As much as Ive publicly lamented growing a mustache for Movember, its actually been kind of fun raising awareness about mens health issues rarely discussed until its too late, like testicular and prostate cancer, and the importance of early detection and diagnosis.

As a normally cleanshaven marketing professional and instructor, Ive been in a hairy situation a time or two over the last month as my clients and students noticed my growing facial concern. Its given me a chance, however, to discuss Movember, including the stat that one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime.

Awareness and fundraising is what Movember is about.

Ive been most surprised by the notable brands recognizing Movember. After I sent my first tweet using the Movember hashtag, I discovered a normally clean-shaven Mr. Clean sporting a Mo Aussie slang for mustache. Another of P&Gs brands, Gillette, announced the opening of a 1940s-style The Best A Mo Can Get barbershop in London, offering Mo Bros free stache touchups.

The rotund Michelin tire man grew a Mo, but it was no match for the Mo-bile mustaches adorning planes from British Airways, Virgin and Qantas, the latter making its first public appearance joined by members of the Qantas Wallabies, Australias rugby union team.

A week ago, I blogged about my surprise that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers sported a Mo on Sunday Night Football. Both of my college alma maters participated in Movember.
