The writer recently came across an online article that mentioned how a CEO of McDonalds told a young girl that their restaurants dont sell junk food. Apparently he takes his son there to eat, as a statement to his belief that those restaurants serve healthy food. Well certainly that statement is simply not true, unfortunately most of McDonalds food selections do contain large amounts of fat, sodium and calories, with a little protein sprinkled in. What the CEO failed to mention is for some families going to McDonalds has other meanings for them. This is not just a routine stop for a burger and fries; it has family memories attached to those visits.
For the writer his family memories sadly included visits to his local McDonalds on Clinton near Dingens street in an area that was called Kaisertown. It was at this restaurant that the writer has memories of spending time with his dad when his was younger. Me and my dad would either eat in or go through the drive-thru and get some cheeseburgers. To this day the writer still prefers those burgers over other fast food restaurants. Now let me get back to the reason this is so sad for the writer, it because, he no longer associates with his dad anymore. In fact it has been over 8 years since he last saw him. Now the writer is certainly not trying to endorse McDonalds in anyway but again for some families, going to these restaurants is about memories, not just for the food. Indeed most of America needs to make better selections when we go out to eat and restaurants like McDonalds need to improve their food menu selections as well. The writer would also like to see restaurants like McDonalds incorporate more kids fun centers in their restaurants, so kids and adults can burn of those extra calories, but that is just the writers two cents worth.
