The fast paced nature of our society has caused us to become more and more disconnected from our emotions. The result? The average person is tangled ball of nasty emotional energy, which inevitably leads to weight gain (mindless eating at the computer or while watching television, emotional overeating due to stress, etc.)

We dont deliberately choose our feelings. Our emotions are feedback based upon our thoughts and responses to life experiences. Positive feelings indicate that were in alignment with our true desires (healthy weight loss), while negative feelings illustrate that we are out of alignment with weight loss success.

In a sense-- our emotions are automatic responses to our beliefs, intentions, thoughts and expectations. And the way you treat your body is directly correlated to how you feel at any given moment. You're either feeling afflicted in some way or supported.

Negative emotions as a call to action

If youve been feeling bad lately about your weight, look at those emotions as signs that energetically-- youre not in alignment with your goal. In fact, the longer you stay in emotional distress the further youre moving away from your weight loss goal.

Not to worry, the negative emotions about your current reality are a good thing. That emotional nudge is there to get your attention, so youll listen to what you really want (pound shedding) and start heading in that direction. Dont allow yourself to marinate in bad feelings you have about your weight. Instead, figure out what you need to do or become in order to get the results you want.

Often what traps us in negative emotion about our weight is that deep down we know how we want our bodies to look, but we dont think we can make it happen. Sometimes we also dont feel we deserve to lose the weight. So we silently tell ourselves maybe we shouldnt want it. Please dont do that. It never works.

Here are two tips on summoning good feelings about your weight loss goals (no matter how bad youve felt in the past):

  • Develop an affirmation around your weight loss goal. For example, Im so excited that Im finally at my ideal weight! or I'm easily and effortlessly releasing my excess weight. or The scale and mirror dont dictate how good I feel about myself
  • Turbo charge your affirmation by attaching positive emotion to it. Some people don't use affirmations because they seem like empty statements and a waste of time. But, this doesn't have to be the case. More than likely, you have some unforgettable, vivid memories that ooze excitement, exhilaration, empowerment, sensuality or some other powerful emotion. And its easy for you to revisit these experiences and tap these feelings. Simply scan your memory for a wonderful event and allow yourself to get into that feeling. Then close your eyes and say your affirmation (aloud or in your head). Evoking these emotions can increase the impact of your affirmations.

The Emotion of Desire

When you want something, really want it. Let that juicy feeling of desire permeate your entire being until youre almost ready to explode from the energy it creates (dont focus on what you dont want). Desire feels good. This is how you get aligned your weight loss goal.
