Since the 1970's, bicycle riders in Long Beach have been required to register their bikes, in the same way cars are registered. It was said to assist the police in returning stolen bicycles.

According to the Long Beach Press Telegram "A city report says that 2,600 new licenses were issued and 3,000 were renewed in the 2010 fiscal year. A fat burning overview can help you produce a clear outline of what you demand to focus on to achieve your fat reduction goal if you're a rookie; or serve as a reminder for those who are at an intermediate or more boost stage of their losing weight plan. Following are seven steps that can serve as instructions for your special weight loss program. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not exactly the same thing. Many weight loss applications have misled people into thinking that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss applications only work by leading to a person's body to reduce more muscle cells and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. Police issued 1,035 citations last year for lack of bicycle registration, but in every case the citations weren't the only infraction, the report says.

By using bike registrations, police were able to return 220 bicycles to their owners out of 980 stolen bikes that were recovered last year, according to the report"

However, in October of last year the issue came to a head as dozens of riders who were participating in a biking awareness ride were cited. Since then, the city's moniker of "The Most Bicycle Friendly City in America" was under scrutiny.

On Tuesday, February 8th, the City Council unanimously voted to amend the law, in effect ending the requirement for bicycles to be registered. Instead, there will be a voluntary bike registry accesible online to allow those who wish to register their bikes to do so.

So, if an unregistered bicycle is what's been keeping you from biking, get your helmet on and go!
