Bad news for fans of the NBC weight-loss juggernaut "The Biggest Loser." NBC announced its fall 2012 schedule Sunday and the reality show was not in its customary 8 p.m. Tuesday slot -- the first time in its eight-year, 13-season history.
It wasn't a complete shock for those of us who cover the show. Nationwide casting calls had not been scheduled and filming had not started for season 14, so it seemed unlikely that the show would be back for fall.
But was the contentious "Biggest Loser" season 13 the unlucky death blow for the show?
Not to worry. The network announced today that the show is returning, but did not say exactly when. The reason for the delay is intriguing, though. The website Deadline Hollywood reported this afternoon that the show is being retooled for season 14.
Producers are revising and refreshing the show and they needed more time, NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said.
If you want to feed your "Biggest Loser" fix, you can pick up a copy of trainer Bob Harper's new book "The Skinny Rules" (Ballantine Books, $26), which comes out on Tuesday. Harper's book, his second, distills his years of weight-loss expertise down to 20 rules. Some of them:
- Don't drink your calories.
- Go to bed slightly hungry.
- Eat at least 10 meals a week at home.
- Eat protein at every meal.
