Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of Americans, taking more lives than cancer each year. The American Heart Association is holding its annual Heart & Stroke Walk on Saturday, 9/25/11 at 2pm. The walk is held in an effort to collect donations benefiting the Associations efforts to reduce the number of deaths each year from cardiovascular disease, and by educating attendees on the importance of exercise as a part of a heart healthy lifestyle in preventing disease.
Cardiovascular disease is a class of diseases involving the heart and/or blood vessels. These diseases have similar causes and treatments. Included are:
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Atherosclerosis
- Congestive heart failure
- Coronary artery disease
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Angina
- Aneurysm
The American Heart Association is the largest volunteer-based organization that works to prevent, treat, and defeat heart disease, stroke, and cardiovascular disease.
