While the new season of The Biggest Loser enjoying its best ratings in years, some are questioning whether having teens on the show is a good idea. David Broome, a Biggest Loser executive producer, discussed the topic on HuffPost Live on Monday along with the shows childhood obesity expert, Dr. Joanna Dolgoff.

The three teens on the show are not living on the ranch and will not be subjected to weigh-ins or elimination. Instead, they'll be doing the work at home.
To get a first-hand perspective, we talked with someone who has experienced both the show and the pressures of tackling teenage obesity.
Jackie Evans competed on season 5 of The Biggest Loser with her son, Dan Evans, who first tried out for The Biggest Loser when he was 19. The duo, who has kept their weight off, helped develop the Biggest Loser RunWalk Series of races around the country. We talked with her after the 5k race in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
I didnt know how to help him back when he was a teen, Evans said of her son, who in addition to helping organize the RunWalk Series, is a musician in Nashville.
I couldnt help myself how could I help him? she said.
When she and her son were on The Biggest Loser in 2008, she would often mention that she felt she was the reason he was battling his weight.
As a mom, I was responsible, she said. The cool thing now is the countrys awareness of health and fitness. Now moms have more education, where when I was raising him, we didnt go to the gym, she said. Only the skinny, fit people did.
Evans says shes glad that the show has included teens this season.
The thing with the teens is theyre at an age where they can make a decision themselves, she said. So if their parents arent ready, theyre going to be able to take it upon themselves to take action and think about their health and fitness.
"So Im really excited that theyre doing teens this year especially for me with the mother-and-son thing.
