Eat This, Not That! 2012 Edition, by David Zinczenko with Matt Goulding (Rodale, $19.99)

The little book that launched a slew of red-faced restaurant menu changes, Eat This, Not That! has been updated for 2012 and hits bookstores today. A fat burning overview can help you establish a clear summarize of what you need to focus on to achieve your fat reducing target if you're a novice; or serve as a reminder for those who are at an advanced or more boost phase of their losing weight strategy. Promptly after are seven steps that can serve as instructions for your personal weight loss plan. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not the same thing. Many weight loss applications have fooled people into believing that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss programs only work by resulting in a person's body to eliminate more muscle tissue and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. There are now a dozen books in the series but this is the original that illustrates the good, the bad and the greasy in restaurant and grocery products.

The book has been so influential, in fact, that Carl's Jr. and Hardee's introduced an "Eat This" turkey burger this year.

I know what you're thinking: Isn't 2012 the year of the apocalypse? Why should I care then? Then fine, eat from the "Not That" side of the book. But when the end of the world doesn't occur next year, the rest of us will be thinner.

Among this year's caloric shockers:

  • TGI Friday's Jack Daniels Chicken Sandwich with fries: 1,590 calories. The book suggests ordering the Jack Daniel's Chicken entree with cole slaw and broccoli for less than half the calories (640).
  • Boston Market's Half Rotisserie Chicken with mashed potatoes and cornbread: 1,110 calories. Bet you thought roto chicken was "safe," huh? Instead, try the restaurant's Roasted Turkey Breast witih garlic dill new potatoes and Mediterranean green beans for 520 calories.
  • Smoothie King's Orange Ka-BAM Smoothie: 465 calories for 20 ounces. This one is listed under the chain's "Stay Healthy" line of smoothies. Try their MangoFest instead for 285 calories.
  • Steak 'n Shake's Grilled Portobello 'n Swiss Steakburger: 770 calories, and that's just for the sandwich. Instead, you can have a Single Steakburger and a small order of fries for 520 calories.

In addition to the restaurant and grocery swaps, the book also features the 20 Worst Foods in America (aka food porn), America's best packaged foods at the supermarket, and a chapter for kid's.

There also are a dozen "Eat This" recipes including Asian Beef Salad With Sriracha-Honey Dressing (430 calories), Greek Chicken With Lemon-Yogurt Sauce (395 calories), and Molten Chocolate Cake (360 calories).
