Other than Oprahs show, Ive been mourning the recent loss of another one of my favorite things: Lululemons Groovy Run Short. Why? Because after more than 15 years of running, all the while searching for the perfect short, I had finally found a pair that allowed me to burn rubber during races without starting a fire between my thighs (ladies, you know what I mean).
So when I recently ducked in a local Lululemon store while out shopping and saw the last few pairs of Groovy shorts on clearance, I started to panic. Was I condemned to a summer of sweating it out in heavy pants or incessantly tugging at ill-fitting shorts while mid-workout? Well, fortunately for me, and many other like-minded and, may I add, similarly-built runners, the company has just released their new Turbo Run Short, an even groovier version of the Groovy, if you will.
The Turbo is Lululemons mid-length (4.5 inseam), medium-rise technical running short made of their signature Swift fabric, which is amazingly lightweight yet responsive, even on the longest of runs. Add chafe-resistant flat seams, ample pockets for storage of gels and keys, plus a soft, wicking Coolmax liner, and youve got a truly functional, well-fitting running short.
One thing worth noting is that there are two different types of fabric used in the Turbo; it just depends on the pattern and/or color of your short. Some colors are made of Lululemons regular Swift (two-way stretch), while others consist of of a recycled polyester Swift (four-way stretch). Performance-wise, theres virtually no difference from my beloved Groovy short, but the notched sides of the Turbo allow for a slightly more forgiving fit in the thigh area, while the new vented design and seam detail on the rear is super-flattering. The Turbo also runs pretty true-to-size, plus the smooth, wide waistband is snug without being overly-elastic, so it stays perfectly in place during activity.
As much as I loved the Groovy, I have to admit that Lululemon kicked it into high gear with the Turbo. Yes, sometimes change can be a good thing.
