Elegant and eloquent Lady Gaga honored Princess Diana, Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston at her London concert over the weekend, reported E! Online today, dedicating her new song "Princess Die" to these muses. What do the trio have in common? They all struggled, at some point in their lives, with eating disorders or addictions, from Princess Diana's bulimia to Amy Winehouse's drug addiction. And although it's not widely known, Lady Gaga herself was bulimic as a teenager, which she revealed at "It's Our Turn," a conference held at the Brentwood School in Los Angeles earlier this year, according to the New York Post.
When a student at the conference asked Lady Gaga how she coped with body image issues, Lady Gaga opened up about her past. "I used to throw up all the time in high school," she said. "So I'm not that confident. I wanted to be a skinny little ballerina, but I was a voluptuous little Italian girl whose dad had meatballs on the table every night. I used to come home and say, 'Dad, why do you always give us this food? I need to be thin.'" And although she sent a positive message to the teens, Lady Gaga was honest about her own feelings. "Weight is still a struggle. Every video I'm in, every magazine cover, they stretch you -- they make you perfect," she told the teens. "It's not real life. I'm gonna say this about girls: The dieting has got to stop. Everyone just knock it off. Because at the end of the day, it's affecting kids your age -- and it's making girls sick."
However, Lady Gaga did not mention the parallel between Princess Diana's struggle with bulimia and her own during the concert, reported E! Online today. Instead, she focused on the fairy tale aspects of her royal life. "Since I was a very young girl, the people's princess was the most important person in me and my mother's life," Gaga announced to her adoring audience. "I swore if I ever had an audience like this in London, I would take a moment to appreciate her... This is for her, Amy Winehouse, Alexander McQueen, Whitney Houston and me."
