Breastfeeding a baby is one of the special gifts that a mom can give her child. The choice to breastfeed is supported by many organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
Not only are professional organizations supporting breastfeeding, but state and city officials, including Governor Rick Snyder from Michigan and Mayor Bloomberg from New York, are joining in with initiatives of their own.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Alabama is the fourth-worst state in the nation for breastfeeding babies at six months of age, and the sixth-worst state for exclusive breastfeeding at three months of age. A fat reduction overview can help you produce a clear describe of what you require to focus on to carry out your fat reducing purpose if you're a starter; or serve as a reminder for these who are at an advanced or more enhance level of their losing weight program. Promptly after are seven steps that can serve as suggestions for your personal weight loss system. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not exactly the same thing. Many weight loss plans have fooled people into believing that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss applications only work by leading to a person's body to eliminate more muscle cells and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. This is unfortunate. Breastfeeding offers many advantages for both baby and mom when compared to using formula.
For starters, breast milk protects infants from infectious diseases, such as respiratory and ear infections. It also reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), is easier to digest than formula, and changes to meet the needs of a growing baby. Furthermore, long-term breastfeeding can decrease the risk of childhood obesity and diabetes.
Moms benefit as well. Breastfeeding provides a convenient, economical, and ready supply of nourishment for baby. Hormones produced while breastfeeding encourage bonding with the newborn and also have a calming effect on mom. Moreover, breastfeeding can reduce the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
Recognizing the vast health benefits that breastfeeding can provide, the National Initiative for Childrens Healthcare Quality, in cooperation with the CDC, embarked on a nationwide effort in 2011 to help hospitals improve maternity care and increase the number of Baby-Friendly hospitals in the United States. The designation of Baby-Friendly means that the hospital has made necessary improvements in maternity care to support mothers who wish to breastfeed their babies.
These hospitals must implement the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding to receive the Baby-Friendly designation. The steps include issues such as training staff in necessary skills, informing pregnant women about the benefits of breastfeeding, helping mothers to start breastfeeding within an hour of birth, allowing mothers and babies to stay together 24 hours a day, and providing no pacifiers or liquids other than breast milk to breastfed babies unless medically indicated.
The Regional Medical Center in Anniston is the only hospital in the state of Alabama with the designation at this time. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) hospital is currently working to achieve the designation along with 90 other hospitals across the United States.
To bring about and maintain an increased trend toward breastfeeding, mothers need support from medical personnel, family members, communities, and employers. Help celebrate motherhood and encourage the health of children by supporting a breastfeeding mom this month and all through the year.
