College basketball lost a friend a few days ago. Rick Majerus, the sweater-wearing, food-loving former basketball coach at Utah, died last Saturday of heart failure in Los Angeles. A fat burning review can help you establish a clear summarize of what you demand to focus on to carry out your fat loss purpose if you're a beginner; or serve as a reminder for the ones who are at an advanced or more advance level of their weight-loss plan. Promptly after are seven steps that can serve as instructions for your special weight loss plan. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not the same thing. Many weight loss programs have misled people into believing that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss applications only work by causing a person's body to eliminate more muscle flesh and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. He was only 64.

Majerus, who had a history of heart and weight problems, made Utah a fixture in the NCAA basketball tournament and led the Utes to the 1998 championship game. In 2007, he joined Saint Louis University as a coach, but in mid-November the school announced he would not return because of health issues.

Majerus was never shy about his love of food particularly bratwurst and his weight issue, and wrote an autobiography in 2000 called My Life on a Napkin. His death at a relatively young age serves as a reminder to all of us including one in three Americans who are obese that todays food decisions impact long-term health, especially during the holidays.

If theres ever a time when we give ourselves a pass to ignore how we fuel our bodies, its during the days of Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or Christmas when were in celebratory overload. We proclaim tis the season to be jolly and discard everything we know about healthy eating in the spirit of just one more bite or one more drink.

Last month during American Diabetes Month, I blogged about making the holidays our SAM our season of attention and moderation relative to what we eat. Theres nothing wrong with enjoying food. Its a part of the human experience. There is something troublesome, though, about eating too much of the big three nutritional saboteurs: excessive fat, salt and sugar.

So how can we make the holidays our SAM? We can:

Pay attention to what and how much we consume, and make our consumption more about hunger than celebration.

Recognize when were mindlessly snacking or eating because were stressed.

Choose a reduced-fat, low-salt or low-sugar version of our favorite snacks or foods.

Watch what we drink, realizing that soda and alcohol are loaded with empty calories. Eggnog is loaded with fat and sugar.

Recruit a friend or the entire family to help keep each other on track.

Without a doubt, theres nothing exciting about facing a new year feeling bad and depressed because weve spent the last month making poor nutritional choices. If we start today with our SAM, we wont have to be so tough on ourselves with unrealistic New Years resolutions Jan. 1.

Marquette University, Majerus' alma mater, is planning a public memorial service for him later this week. The University of Utah will pay its respects by hoisting a replica sweater to the rafters as a reminder of the a coach, mentor and good-natured basketball expert who seems to have left the game of life way too soon.
