What's in your Easter basket this year? Or your child's? Is it healthy?

As consumers, we are bombarded in the stores at holiday seasons. It is no longer in the middle of the store - the chocolate bunnies, the malted milk balls, the jelly beans, the chocolate eggs. It's there when you first walk into a store. It's throughout the store, at the end of aisles. It's at the checkout counter. All not-so healthy options for you to indulge in. So, what's a healthy person to do? Or someone who wants to be a healthy person? Here are some ideas for your own healthy Easter basket, or one for your kids:

Be creative. Think about the person receiving the basket. What are their likes and dislikes? What are their hobbies?

For younger kids:

  • Bubbles - go down the playing outdoors aisle for fun ideas
  • Books - age appropriate or Easter classics
  • Balls - any kind of ball will do, kids love balls!
  • Puzzles or games - unusual items that will keep them occupied
  • For girl, Barbie or other doll
  • For boy, action figure

For older kids:

  • Books - age appropriate or chapter books that they like
  • I-Tunes gift card - always a favorite with teens
  • Wi or Playstation game - one that they have been wanting to get
  • Lotion or soap from Bath & Body Works - or lip gloss for tweens
  • Hair accessories or hat - Easter-related theme or getting ready for summer
  • Jewelry - fun items that match their personality, Sparkle!

For adult:

  • Books or magazines - healthy recipe books like the Eat Clean Series or healthy magazines like Oxygen or Runner's World
  • Gift card to sports store or vitamin store - Vitamin Shoppe
  • Gift certificate for massage - always a favorite - Miracles of Massage
  • Jewelry - beautiful and unique, Sparkle!
  • Jump rope - for those indoor cardio days
  • Workout towel - pastel colored, of course
  • Perfume - clean and classic

There are alternatives to having an Easter basket filled to the brim with chocolate and candy. While that may be a habit that's hard to break, your physical [and emotional] health will be much better off if you choose wisely and celebrate health instead of just what you have done in the past.
