Newly-minted lifestyle guru Gwyneth Paltrow used to be known solely for her acting chops, but has since added a host of other occupations to her resume forays into singing, cooking and blogging, to name a few. But despite these varied pursuits, she still manages to maintain (and make headlines thanks to) an enviable physique. "I work freakin' hard," shes lamented when asked about her secret for staying svelte. "You either starve yourself or you do cardio and eat. There's no free ride."

The freakin hard part to which Patrows referring comes in the form of beloved trainer Tracy Andersons Metamorphosis program (full disclosure, the pair are business partners), of which I can now attest as a recent graduate. As I wrote initially, the 90-day program consists of nine rotating muscular structure workouts, plus a daily 30 minutes of cardio and a dynamic eating plan. At the 30- and 60-day points, I documented my feedback here and here, respectively, but now that Ive since completed the full system, Im sharing some final thoughts below.

First things first, if youre in a slump and looking to switch up your current workout routine, Anderson serves up a rotation of nine workouts that are consistently tough and unlike anything youve probably done before which can be equally refreshing and frustrating! I initially began the program thinking three months of home workouts would drive me crazy, but ended up finding the cardio dance videos a welcome respite from the gym (if you can get past your spouse laughing at your crazy dance moves, that is). And thanks to Andersons targeted ab, arm and leg exercises, Im admiring a few subtle, yet newfound muscles without having bulked up, which is Andersons claim to fame.

Change is possible once you identify the problem areas and focus on changing, redesigning your muscular structure, Anderson explained recently to Metro World News. How you build up muscle is key; you dont want to look massive and masculine. Switch exercises every 10 days as muscles, especially the smaller ones, have good memory and need to be continually challenged and stimulated.

There are a few parts of the program that Id like to see improved for future iterations, however. First, I need consistent counts and cues to better follow along at home. I realize Andersons used to giving personal attention, but we video vixens need a little extra explanation to nail the moves. Next, Id like to see the muscular structure workouts get progressively more difficult. As it currently stands, the leg portion is excruciating at every stage, but I found myself looking for increasing intensity in the arm and ab portions. Finally, as much as Ive tried to spice up the dance cardio with music, there really needs to be more than one routine, and at an intensity that can be maintained for the duration of the program. I started off with a bang, but limped across the finish line with sore feet, plus a sensitive Achilles tendon, which I think could be resolved by adding more diversity to the cardio portion, even though Anderson makes a valiant attempt to mix up the moves in the existing video.

Using the body in the same way over and over again can lead to injury or joint problems, Anderson admitted in Metro World News. With dance aerobics, you are still pounding but are constantly shifting your body and transferring the weight, meaning the joints wear out less.

The final verdict? The highly-regimented nature of both the diet and the exercise schedule (six days a week, plus a very specific diet) can be pretty intense, so expect to do what I did and adapt the program to suit your lifestyle, while simultaneously resetting your expectations for results. Instead of pinning all your hopes on making the leap from caterpillar to butterfly in 90 days, look at Metamorphosis as a fun way to jump-start a new regimen or to spice up your current routine to combat flagging motivation. Challenge your body to new things, and youll be pleasantly surprised with what emerges!
