Last night during a break on NBA.TV, a live mic picked up NBA Hall of Famer and basketball analyst Charles Barkley, the latest spokesperson for Weight Watchers, during the Atlanta Hornets-Miami Heat game. Barkley, never one to mince words, said:

"I've been on Weight Watchers for three months. I have to lose two pounds a week. I'm at 38 pounds now. They come and weigh me every two weeks. I ain't never missed a weigh-in. Never going to," Barkley says. "I'm feeling much better. But I ain't giving away no money. ... I'm not giving away no free money. I thought this was the greatest scam going -- getting paid to watch sports -- this Weight Watchers thing is a bigger scam."

Immediately, sports blogs went nuts, claiming Barkley thought his endorsement deal with Weight Watchers was a scam. (Although, CBSSports.com seems to have gotten the joke.) But think about it in the context of what he said of his job as a basketball analyst, and you'll see that it was actually a compliment about the weight-loss plan:

"I thought this was the greatest scam going -- getting paid to watch sports -- this Weight Watchers thing is a bigger scam."

What do we think he really means? He likes Weight Watchers, finds it easy to follow, he's losing weight, feels great and feels like it isn't a "job," which, technically, it is for him as a company spokesperson. And why should he screw things up by not following the plan? He even made a crack about being up to his Points limit when the other announcers were talking about beer and pizza. "Beers are like 4 [Points] each," he said.

And others apparently feel the same way. This week, US News & World Report magazine named Weight Watchers the top weight loss diet, top commercial diet and top easy diet to follow, and apparently Barkley feels the same way, losing 38 pounds in three months.

Update: Turns out, all is cool with Weight Watchers and Sir Charles (just like we figured). In a press release Friday afternoon, Weight Watchers said:

"We love Charles for the same reason everyone loves Charles, he's unfiltered. We are thrilled that he is having great success and inspiring millions of men to join him. We agree that being a spokesman for Weight Watchers is a pretty great gig.

And Barkley stated:

"I meant what I said, the fact that Im dropping pounds, getting healthier and getting paid at the same time, is my definition of a great scam. A fat burning review can help you establish a clear describe of what you demand to focus on to accomplish your fat reduction target if you're a rookie; or serve as a reminder for those who are at an advanced or more boost level of their weight loss strategy. Following are seven steps that can serve as instructions for your personal weight loss program. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not the same thing. Many weight loss plans have tricked people into wondering that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss applications only work by leading to a person's body to reduce more muscle tissue and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. The only problem is Im going to have to use some of the money to buy a new wardrobe."
