In 2007, rare cancer patient Jennifer Goodman Linn held a small cycling event with a few friends at an Equinox club in New York City, hoping to raise $10,000 for research. What started out as a small event among friends quickly grew into a national movement that is now a global indoor team cycling event to fund rare cancer research led by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSK).
This coming Saturday, February 4, from 8am to 12pm, hundreds of San Francisco area residents will gather together at Equinox on Pine Street for the second annual Cycle for Survival, one of six rides around the nation New York City (Feb 11 &12), Long Island (Feb 4), Washington DC area (Feb 12), Chicago (Feb 11), San Francisco (Feb 4) and Los Angeles (Feb 4).
In the five years since its inception, Cycle for Survival has raised more than $9 million and has funded more than 25 clinical trials and research studies led by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and benefitting patients globally. Every single dollar raised at Cycle for Survival is allocated to research projects led by MSK within six months for treatments of rare cancers, such as pancreatic, ovarian and pediatric cancers.
Teams register to ride for a four hour shift, with a maximum of eight riders per bike. Teams may register multiple bikes.
