Everyone needs a break from any constant activity, whether it be work, school, sports, or going to the gym. A rest for you mind and body is a very good thing and can be essential to being healthy. But, sometimes those breaks can run longer than expected, which only makes it harder to get back to your routine.

If you live in the Midwest or anywhere right now really, it has been too hot to get outside and do any strenuous activity, so getting into the gym is pretty important to reaching your goals. Lets just talk about a few ways to ease back into your routine.

Do a fraction of what you were doing when you left.

If you were going five days a week and it has been a couple of months, it is highly unlikely that you can step right back into that regimen without fear or tearing or straining any tissue. It is best to ease in by doing at least half of what you were for the first few weeks. Try going for three days, where you push it pretty hard for two and moderately for the third. If you want to get back in the habit or four or five days, make a mental note to focus more on your form and stretching your muscles to avoid severe soreness that you could, and more than likely will get.

Create a fun new routine.

If you cant get excited about getting back to the gym, maybe its time to spice up your routine with some new movements, or a new style all together. There are so many more options at the gym than what meets the eye, but you have to be creative. It gets boring very quickly doing an hour or more of cardio equipment, or 4x8 sets on the weight machines. Try pyramid sets, super-sets, or even break up your sets. Start with 10 minutes of cardio, do one 4x8 of whatever workout you want, and then 10 more minutes of cardio and back to the 4x8 set, and continue that pattern until your workout is complete.

Ask someone to help you.

If you have a friend that has wanted to get back in the gym as well, make a pact to go together and to be encouraging on rebuilding the habit. A partner eases the stresses of getting back into a place where you may feel insecure about yourself, or are worried that strangers may judge you. Partners can bring new ideas to your workout scheme, or show you alternate techniques to moves you already perform.

Just do it.

Nike probably says it best, Just do it. If you were doing it before, you can do it again. Dont worry about people judging you, or giving you a hard time for being gone. Exercising is not only good for you cardiovascular system, but it does a lot for you mentally as well.

Remember, if you can find an excuse today, you can find one tomorrow. Just throw on some shorts and a t-shirt and go get sweaty.
