Gaffney SC-based Nestle Prepared Foods Company, located about 53 miles south of Charlotte, has issued a voluntary recall of a popular Lean Cuisine entre. Consumers in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin found pieces of hard, red plastic in the meatball portion of the frozen dinner. The company has not received any reports of injury.
Approximately 10,260 pounds of the product, packaged on October 25, 2010 and shipped to distributors and retail stores in multiple states east of the Rocky Mountains, have been recalled. The recall is limited to dinners produced in a one-hour window of production, and no other product is involved.
According to the US Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the recall involves only the 9.5-ounce package of Lean Cuisine Simple Favorites, Spaghetti with Meatballs. The packages bear the establishment number P-7991, case code 0298595519P, and UPC code 13800-10390. The Best Before date is November, 2011.
The FSIS is the public health agency responsible for ensuring that the nations commercial supply of meat, poultry, and egg products is safe, wholesome, and correctly labeled and packaged.
This is a class II recall, which indicates that it is a health hazard situation where there is a remote possibility of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.
Consumers who have the Lean Cuisine dinner at home are urged not to consume the product, but to contact Nestle at 866-606-8264 for a coupon for a replacement entre.
