Every so often, the writer gets reminded about how good he has it with regards to just having a job and for the most part providing for his familys needs. Now, the writer does have a great job in but he might be in danger of becoming unemployed again because of the economy, his wife is currently unemployed, and at times money is very scarce. Yet the writer knows he could easily be living a poorer lifestyle, just one paycheck away from sudden financial hardship. Now I am sure that most of us have seen this sign, similar to this one pictured in this article to this at least a couple times, a man or a family asking to work for food near a busy road in Buffalo NY. In fact the writers wife also came across a man, waiting outside our church holding a similar sign with his baby boy in tow. The sad part is there is more of this happening right in our neighborhoods, people literally starving in silence. Most people know that Buffalo NY is a proud but depressed community, people literally losing their jobs left and right and people having to make decisions about how to survive another day.

The writer has first hand experience on how long the lines are at this center and the fact that it can be a humbling experience just trying to apply for assistance.
