It is almost clich to talk about how stressful the holidays are financial worries, time constraints, and family drama coming to a head. Our worries are still our worries and now we can add jeans that dont fit or not feeling good in our New Years finest to the list.

So, stop before you bite. Take a deep breath. Do you really want that cookie? I mean need that cookie? No one ever needs a cookie. Can you acknowledge that what you are really doing is trying to squash what you may really be feeling with a momentary sugar rush?

Then have a cup of tea, glass of water or another deep breath. Find self satisfaction in saying no. Give yourself a mental pat on the back and maybe the next one wont be so hard to turn down.

It is okay to be frustrated, uncomfortable, sad or unhappy. Dont further the strain by adding guilt, heart disease or diabetes. Will one cookie do that? No. But an established pattern of smothering emotion with food can.

When you really want to celebrate and there is a beautiful morsel in front of you, now you can enjoy it without an ounce of regret. Indulging is okay when you recognize it as the occasional treat to be savored.
