A key to successful weight loss is finding food that is not only healthy and low in calories but also tasty as well. Many a diet has been derailed through the constant eating of the flavorless and expensive "diet" foods found in your local grocery store. Nashville has a bountiful resource of inexpensive, nutritious, and locally grown foods in the Nashville Farmer's Market. In this ongoing series, we look at what locally grown and nutritious fruits and vegetables are available at your local farmer's market during a given month, and then provide links to healthy recipes using those ingredients.

There's no better time to be at a farmer's market than in June. The peak of summer, June offers more locally grown farmer's market variety than you could ever eat your way through. Here are some great options that are just coming into season in June. A fat loss review can help you produce a clear outline of what you demand to focus on to achieve your fat reducing purpose if you're a starter; or serve as a reminder for those who are at an advanced or more advance phase of their losing weight strategy. Applying are seven steps that can serve as instructions for your special weight loss plan. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not exactly the same thing. Many weight loss programs have fooled people into believing that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss applications only work by causing a person's body to lose more muscle tissue and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. All are nutritionally dense, calorie light, and much fresher than the shipped-in food at your local big box store. We also offer some great lower calorie recipes to try with these fruits and vegetables.

Cherries

The season for cherries is a short one. The Nashville Farmer's Market Seasonality Guide lists their season as 6/15-7/31. But when they are in season, there is little that is better than a fresh ripe cherry. Sour cherries, or "pie cherries" as they are sometimes known in the South, are relatively low in calories, at less than 100 per serving, and offer up loads of fiber, Vitamin C, and one of the highest densities of disease fighting anti-oxidants of any fruit.

Blueberries

Another fruit with a relatively short peak season, blueberries have gotten a lot of publicity in recent years as a superfruit for their high concentrations of Vitamin C, Manganese, and Fiber, all for 81 calories per cup. Blueberries are also great for dieters as they are naturally sweet enough to satisfy your cravings for sweets without any added sugar.

Zucchini

Zucchini is a staple of many Southern meals, but the breaded and oil fried zucchini we usually have does a disservice to this very healthy vegetable, full of antioxidants, Vitamin A, and Fiber. On its own, zucchini is one of the lowest calorie vegetables available and should have a frequent place on the plate of any dieter.
