Restricting her diet to two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste daily, Anne Hathaway sacrificed her health in her determination to lose 25 pounds for "Les Miserables," reported Us Weekly on Nov. 12. "I had to be obsessive about it--the idea was to look near death," Anne admitted. But now, reflecting on how she risked her health for the role, Anne confessed, "Looking back on the whole experience--and I don't judge it in any way---it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think thats who Fantine is anyway."
The film "Les Miserables" opens in theaters in December, but publicity began in the spring over Anne's dramatic physical transformation to play dying Fantine, who suffered from tuberculosis. Even before filming began, Anne lost 10 pounds. She followed that by the starvation diet of two skinny squares of dried oatmeal paste daily, resulting in the loss of another 15 pounds in two weeks. And in terms of health, that diet definitely qualifies for the category of "don't try this at home, folks!"
