NBC is trying to return "The Biggest Loser" to its glory days with key people who made the show a hit. First, trainer Jillian Michaels surprised everyone with the news that she was returning for season 14, and now Cheryl Forberg, RD, let us know over the weekend that she will also be returning to the show, which premieres in January.
Forberg had been the show's nutritionist for seven years, but left after season 12 and was replaced by registered dietitian Rachel Beller, who had previously worked on the Oxygen show "Dance Your Ass Off."
Forberg had been living the life of an "urban farmer" on her Napa, Calif., farm when she got a call from the producers of "The Biggest Loser" asking her whether she'd like to return to the show.
"They called me to return for season 14, and I said yes," Forberg said in an e-mail Sunday afternoon.
We caught up with Forberg and asked her about the upcoming season of the show and what else has been on her plate.
Q. What brings you back to "The Biggest Loser"?
A. The show called me last month to ask me back and I said yes! Six months ago, it would have been different, but I just finished a new book (about quinoa) and was in between projects. The timing was perfect.
Q. How does it feel to have you, Bob and Jillian (as well as Dolvett) back together?
A. We have never all been on the same season, so this is a first -- very exciting!
Q. What have you been doing in your "off season?"
A. Right after I left the show (after season 12) an acquisitions editor from Wiley called and asked me to write a gluten-free book about quinoa. Since it has 150 recipes, I have been very busy this year, but I just turned in the manuscript, and the book will be published Jan. 7.
Q. Have you met the teen participants?
A. Yes I have, and America is going to love them! I wanted to take them all home with me.
Q. How will season 14 be different than past seasons?
A. I really don't know about the storyline(s) -- I like to be surprised, too. But I have met the cast and they are fantastic. I love them all already.
Q.
