While athletes have been using interval training for years to improve their fitness, it was not until a few years ago that the concept was promoted for individuals at gyms, in organized exercise programs, and on DVDs. Perhaps we have The Biggest Loser TV program to thank for that. We like to think that it is only five-year-olds whose attention span is shorter than a 30-second commercial, but lets be honestmost of us adults can quickly abandon an exercise routine in a heartbeat. So, along comes interval exercising to the rescue. A fat reduction overview can help you build a clear summarize of what you demand to focus on to complete your fat burning goal if you're a rookie; or serve as a reminder for the ones who are at an intermediate or more boost step of their losing weight program. Promptly after are seven steps that can serve as suggestions for your special weight loss plan. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not the same thing. Many weight loss courses have misled people into wondering that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss programs only work by causing a person's body to eliminate more muscle cells and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. Interval exercise is perfect for people who are easily bored with doing the same movement over and over and, perhaps, who are anxious to see results.

Simply defined, an interval exercise program is one where the length, speed, and intensity of a given movement are varied throughout the exercise session. It is not a straight 45-minute aerobics dance class, nor a straight half hour of weight lifting. You might be racing against the clock doing one movement for 60 seconds, and then recovering by doing something else for 90 seconds. The benefits are that you are doing something that YOU want and can do and which is really a kind of game, plus you are using all kinds of muscles (whereas, exercising by doing the same thing repeatedly does not make you use other muscles). (Continues below the ad.)

According to the Mayo Clinic, During intense exercise, muscles produce waste products that can contribute to muscle soreness. Too many accumulated waste products can make exercise painful and exhausting. When exercise is not fun, i.e., painful and exhausting, people will quickly abandon the program. But by alternating bursts of intense exercise with easier intervals, you'll help reduce the buildup of waste products in your muscles. The result is more comfortable exercise. And, there is proof that doing intervals revs up your burning of calories, promoting weight loss. Interval training (exercise) also helps you to improve your endurance and increase your energy level. But it is not the intent here to tell you everything there is to know about interval training.

How do you do interval exercising? There are the more formal ways, such as working with a personal trainer, who will tailor a program based on your target heart rate and other factors; or enrolling in a class at a gym (the gym at the Presbyterian Healthplex holds several interval training classes.) And then there is interval exercising in the privacy of your own homeat no cost!

The other night got on the treadmill (my favorite exercise equipment), I started watching the musical Nine (a DVD). The beat of the music was too enticing to just walk fast and slow on the treadmill. It dawned on me that I should get off the treadmill and do interval exercising to the songs. One hour went by fast as I moved about the room, swinging my arms and legs in one song, and then stretching and lifting hand weights in another. The songs alternated among fast, slow, and medium speeds. The slower the song, the more stretching and weight lifting were done. The storyline wasnt all that exciting to me, but the dancing was perfect for interval exercising. Even if you do not have any hand weights, you can still move about to the music. For those days when you just do not feel like exercising, pop in a musical DVD and have fun dancing. The hour goes by so fast that you do not feel like you are putting forth any effort, as it is fun.

BOTTOM LINE: If your exercise program consists of doing the same thing over and over, then ramp it up with cross training (something besides the same thing day after day). Exercising to a musical DVD can help you do that, keep your exercise programs moving, and whip you into a good healthy lifestyle while having fun!
