Jillian Michaels: Ripped in 30 (Empowered Media, $14.98)

Lame-duck Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels, under her Empowered Media label, has just released the comprehensive workout DVD Ripped in 30. The DVD features four 24-minute workouts that you do over a four-week period. Each level incorporates her 3-2-1 interval system:

  • 3 minutes of strength
  • 2 minutes of cardio
  • 1 minute of abs

The system is repeated three times in each workout. The Week 1 workout, which we did, is definitely do-able for beginning exercisers but you'll have to modify to keep up (it's Jillian, after all!). But unlike The Biggest Loser, Jillian is very different on her workout DVDs -- there's a lot less yelling and a lot more encouragement. (And you probably won't have a psychological breakthrough.)

Ready to shred your midsection? That's what this DVD is for. There are two 35-minute workouts on the disc that also include warmups and cooldowns.

Level 1 is good for beginners and features floor moves and cardio exercises that target the core. Level 2 has more strength-training and explosive core moves. You'll need hand weights for this one.

And both workouts will give you a complete cardio workout -- don't be fooled by the abs focus.
