The daily talk show "The Doctors" has targeted next month as Get Moving May, emphasizing family fitness. This afternoon, we talked with Dr. Travis Stork, one of the hosts of the show, author of "The Lean Belly Prescription" and a former Bachelor contestant.

Whether its as simple as walking the family dog an extra 20 minutes a day, yoga in the park, or vigorously cleaning the house, there are many ways to add a little extra activity in your day, and burn extra calories, and the show will emphasize these types of enjoyable actvities.

Exercise can become work, it becomes unenjoyable, Dr. Stork said in a conference call Friday afternoon. It has to be sustainable, something you enjoy.

Dr. Stork offered some exercise and diet tips for families:

  • Make a plan for your familys fitness. Dont stop until you can find an activity you can enjoy together.
  • Play more with your family. Its good for you, its good for your kids and it teaches them how to entertain themselves.
  • Cut back screen time.
  • Increase on your feet time.
  • Get rid of the processed, refined grains and go with whole grains.
  • If someone isn't a fan of vegetables, sneak them into your meals by pureeing them into marinara sauce or adding them to a pizza on a whole wheat thin crust.

Many experts recommend making these types of small changes, but others say "go big or go home." We asked Dr. Stork about the growing trend of more hard-core workouts, such as CrossFit, high-intensity interval training and the Insanity DVD workout.
