Just in time for Fourth of July, Katie Holmes is setting off fireworks in a campaign to save Suri from Scientology practices such as a "purification" detox diet, the Sun reported today. Katie is "terrified" that 6-year-old Suri will be forced to begin Scientology schooling, a source told the Sun, and has filed for sole custody to protect her child. However, Tom Cruise plans to request joint custody so that he can be involved in Suri's education.

Among the Scientology rituals that may concern Katie: a dangerous diet that she herself had to follow soon after she married Tom. The "Scientology-dictated detox diet is known as a purification rundown," according to Life & Style magazine. A Scientology researcher believed that this highly restricted diet was forced upon her by Tom, causing her to experience constant hunger.
