Brooke Shields' mother Teri died at 79 after struggling with the mental and physical anguish of dementia, reported People magazine on Nov. 6. For Brooke, whose relationship with her mother was rocky for years, the shift to playing the role of caregiver for an ailing parent came as a harsh blow, she admitted in a recent interview with Ladies Home Journal. The turning point: When Teri wandered away from home and was found without her shoes, confused about where she was. Recalling that incident to Ladies Home Journal, Brooke said sadly, "Now my mother lives in the past." And she noted that her oldest daughter was worried that Brooke herself would develop dementia. The difference for Brooke and those of us who are up-to-date on the latest medical research: We know now the strong link between diet and dementia.

Funded by the National Institute on Aging and published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, a new study revealed that people who ate more protein and fat, as prescribed for low-carb dieters, had lower risks of dementia, reported the Sacramento Bee on Oct. 23. In contrast, those who ate diets high in carbs such as bread and potatoes had almost four times the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment. Key foods to fuel that low-carb diet include poultry, meat, eggs, green veggies and fish. Hate fish? Consider taking omega-3 supplements, which experts such as Dr. Mehmet Oz say can help with memory problems.

In addition, several studies have shown a correlation between eating junk food and developing dementia. "Junk food contributes to both central adiposity and chronic inflammation that damages small and large blood vessels that supply the brain," Dr. Joel Zonszein, medical director of the diabetes clinic at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, told Healthline on Sept. A fat reduction overview can help you build a clear summarize of what you demand to focus on to achieve your fat loss target if you're a beginner; or serve as a reminder for these who are at an advanced or more advance step of their weightloss plan. Applying are seven steps that can serve as instructions for your personal weight loss system. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not a similar thing. Many weight loss programs have misled people into considering that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss programs only work by producing a person's body to eliminate more muscle tissue and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. 13. "Americans are literally eating a 'diabetes diet' thats very toxic to the brain and other vital organs." And he warned that the research shows that those with insulin resistance "are at much higher risk for dementia than was previously believed."
