There is another shopping venue that is making its way through America. It is the Earth Fare Supermarket, an interesting store that offers something for everyone.
There are many things to like about Earth Fare. What first attracted me was the store's boot list, a list of ingredients that Earth Fare does not permit in the foods on the shelves. These ingredients include:
- High fructose corn syrup
- Artificial sweeteners, flavors, preservatives, and colors
- Trans fats
- Bleached or bromated flour
- Antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones in fresh meat and dairy
- Lead-soldered cans
If a shopper finds an item that doesn't met the above criteria, Earth Fare will award that shopper with a $50 gift card.
The mission of the store is simple. Earth Fare is working to "connect communities and improve lives through food." Some of the fun events offered are Family Dinner Night on Thursdays when kids eat free, Good Olde Days on Tuesdays when chicken dinner is served, and the Friends 5K, an event to help fund programs to end childhood obesity.
The Friend 5K ties in with work done through the Friends of the Earth Fare Foundation. This foundation funds programs that promote physical activity and healthy eating for children.
The store also offers benefits to shoppers such as coupons, specials on foods, and a points program.
The store that serves the greater Birmingham area is conveniently located in Hoover, near the Galleria shopping mall. There is ample parking for customers, and the store is clean and well organized.
If you haven't shopped at Earth Fare yet, give it a try.
