If you have ever bought a package of butter croissants at Trader Joe's, then you know they are huge (and delicious). Reading the nutrition label, you also learn that a serving is one croissant that weighs 78 grams (a little over 2.75 ounces). And that croissant has 340 calories. If you accepted that information blindly and you were trying to count calories, then you would be undercounting the calories in that croissant by 35 percent.

If you have ever traveled in Europe, you know how good the croissants taste. So, seeing the croissants at Trader Joe's (at Paseo and Ventura in Albuquerque), I decided to treat myself and bought a package. Of course, I will report this information to the manager at Trader Joe's. As I have found many times, the labeling is not always correct. So, it pays to have a good scales handy so that you can weigh your own portions and be assured that you are getting the proper size, especially if you are counting calories and trying to stay within a certain range.
