Soon the polls will close, and then the stress really begins. (Sure hope you exercised your right to vote today!) Are you planning to watch the results at a party? Or perhaps you are just going to have your TV on nonstop tonight, as you take in all the news on the election results.
Regardless of how you spend this evening, make yourself aware of mindless eating that occurs when we are not paying attention and the stress is getting to us. You know what that is--when you are snacking on potato chips out of the bag, and all of a sudden, there are no more chips. And you have no clue how the chips you have chowed down tasted. Now THAT is mindless eating.
With the networks in 100 percent hype mode, you will be tempted to eat in the same fashion--a lot, fast, and in a short period of time. It is not too late to save the evening for all you news junkies out there who do not want to miss a single sound-byte tonight.
Here are some quick tips to help you stay on target with your healthy eating plan.
- Measure out what you plan to eat for dinner or while at a party. The excitement of the evening will cause your brain to divert from planning a healthy meal, so you have to be AWARE of what you are eating.
- Clean out your veggie drawer in the refrigerator. Wash the food, and cut it up in bite-size pieces. When you get hungry, grab the veggies instead of high-carb/high-sugar foods, like cookies and other sweets.
