For years, Tara Costa struggled with her weight, weighing 316 pounds at age 22. But even after shedding 155 pounds on "The Biggest Loser," Tara returned to battling her food addiction. The result: Tara gained weight and realized she needed help, reported ABC News yesterday. Learn how Tara admitted that she had become a compulsive eater and recovered in this article.
Tara recognized that she was not dealing with a physical issue: it was mental. "Now it's not about willpower, it's about -- there might be something wrong up here," she told ABC yesterday, gesturing to her head. And with that recognition that she was a food addict came relief. Now Tara says that it "makes me feel good that, guess what, I'm not crazy. There's science now behind this that can help people." She admits that she must take her food addiction one day at a time. But that doesn't mean defeat. She recently completed a triathlon in Kona, Hawaii.
"No dream is impossible," Tara told ABC News yesterday. "Every day when I wake up I know that I'm going to be doing something that's going to build a bigger brain, going to run or ride a bike." But at the same time, she does understand that she needs to be aware that she is a compulsive eater. "I wish I could be normal with it," she said. "I wish I could have one bite and be satisfied." However, she has "hope that it will be OK."
