Benefits of Walking

With spring in the air and summer just around the corner, what better way to get in our daily exercise than with a nice walk!

Walking is one of the easiest forms of exercise, and can be done by people of all ages, shapes and sizes. It can be done indoors; on a treadmill or walking through the mall, or anywhere outside. The options are endless.

Besides being an easy form of exercise, there are numerous benefits to walking. Just 30 minutes of walking at a moderate intensity most days of the week can reduce our risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, osteoporosis and arthritis. In addition, walking can increase your good cholesterol levels (HDL), increase your energy levels, improve your stamina, reduce stress, tone your muscles and boost your metabolism.

We can even choose to walk to benefit others. Races and walks are held all over, all times of the year to benefit various causes.
