About five years ago the manufacturers of fruit juices figured out that they could make a boatload of money by bottling juices made from exotic fruits, and making outlandish claims about the health benefits of the particular juice. The juices were plugged as the easy, no-brainer drink that would solve all your weight and health problems, or so the manufacturers would have you believe.

Unfortunately, except for the fact that many fruits have antioxidants in them, the claims made by these companies were then, and still are, mostly empty. Indeed, the benefits of antioxidants appear to be in the whole form of a fruit, and not in a beverage (or, if in a beverage, in such a minute quantity as to have no health benefit). So you are probably asking, Then, how can they get away with the false claims? Easythey can sell millions of bottles with the deceptive advertising on them before the FDA slaps their hands with a cease-and-desist order, assuming it will eventually catch up with the company's claims. (Article continues below ad.)

And that is exactly what happened last week with the POM Wonderful juice (Albuquerque Journal, 5/23/12). POM Wonderful juice is 100 percent pomegranate juice, with no added sugar. On May 17, 2012, a federal administrative judge ruled that the company used deceptive advertising with claims that the juice could treat or prevent heart disease, prostate cancer, and other illnesses. You can read POMs interpretation of the judges ruling here. And you can read the actual FDA decision here and see the ads as well. Judge for yourself whether Roll Globals (parent company of POM) has interpreted the judges ruling the way you would. (Note that the latter link is from a POM website.)

Do not be swayed by or blindly accept the claims you read on the labels, or any studies you hear about juices. A particular study may have had only 12 participants, and there may not have been a placebo group used. A fat reduction review can help you construct a clear describe of what you demand to focus on to carry out your fat loss target if you're a rookie; or serve as a reminder for these who are at an intermediate or more improve stage of their weightloss plan. Following are seven steps that can serve as methods for your personal weight loss plan. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not a similar thing. Many weight loss applications have fooled people into believing that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss plans only work by resulting in a person's body to eliminate more muscle flesh and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. If you want more information about a study, contact the manufacturer, but be prepared to be told they just cannot release that information to you!

You may be angry that the FDA has gone too far in making a decision about a pure fruit juice. But consider the millions of people who would buy a bottle of juice that said it can treat or prevent heart disease. Many people like that would skip seeing their doctors, too, because of their false belief in the benefits from drinking the juice.

BOTTOM LINE: If you are seeking health benefits, then you are better off sticking with the real thingfruit in its whole, natural form. And if you want to drink your fruit, then get a juicer and juice the whole fruit, so that you do not lose the benefits of antioxidants. Be very careful to read the labels of juices that are marketed as 100% pure fruit juice. Often fruit juices have other things added to them, especially when you do not read that it contains 100 percent fruit juice. Keep in mind that fruit in its natural form will contain fewer calories and less sugar, and will be more filling that something you can drink in a couple of minutes. And the whole form will be cheaper to buy than any bottled fruit juice.
