Calling all green-thumb wannabes! This Saturday, March 5, Santa Cruzs Love Apple Farm is hosting a spring workshop on Designing the Perfect Vegetable Garden, featuring tried-and-true tips on the best landscape design and construction.
As the exclusive kitchen garden for world-renowned Manresa Restaurant in Los Gatos, Love Apple Farm will share valuable information on superior soil fertility, supplier recommendations, approaches to bed design, siting beds for maximum effectiveness, plus other secrets to success in the garden.
Other topics to be covered include:
- Starting out: Installing a vegetable garden on any surface, from an existing lawn to concrete
- Bed sizes: Proper sizing is important, from height to width
- Paths: Considerations of path materials, cost and efficiency
- Holding in soil: From various types of lumber to other hardscape materials, learn what to do and how to save money
- Filling beds: Top soil varies in vitality and useability; learn how to get a deal and the best start for new plants
- Other important elements: Seed-starting greenhouses, compost piles, worm bins, chicken coops and beehives
