Finally, one of the largest weight loss companies in the world has admitted that their system is founded on unhealthy and unsafe principles.

The president of Weight Watchers, David Kirchoff, recently said on their website, "Calorie counting has become unhelpful

Myself and other health & fitness experts have been trying to preach this for years.

Of course, counting calories and points isnt helpful!

I cant figure out what took them decades to realize that this was a bad idea to begin with. (I hope they didnt hold off on sharing their insights because they were becoming rich off an unhealthy way of viewing nutrition)

In the short term severely slashing your calories will definitely help you lose weight, but then without a doubt your metabolism will drop and you will CEASE losing weight.

It actually has more to do with your hormones at that point and its a safeguard method your body has set up to prevent you from starving to death. As a result, your body burns less calories, signals you to expend less energy, and stores a greater ratio of fat.

Obviously this is not an ideal scenario and thats one reason why Weight Watchers and other calorie, or point counting systems arent good long-term plans. And, as you just saw they actually hurt your metabolism going forward.

The other reason why I never liked calorie counting systems is that there isnt enough emphasis on food quality. Calorie counting systems award merit based on how low-cal a product is.

Therefore, a 100-calorie snack pack of chips or cookies is equal to a 4oz. piece of grilled chicken with a side of broccoli.

Does anyone see anything wrong with that picture?

Whose body do you think is going to be healthier and look more vibrant: The person who consumes 1,800 calories per day of processed foods or the one who eats lean protein, healthy fats, and quality carbohydrates with fiber?

I think we both know the answer

Today, I dont want to get into how protein is a much higher thermogenic food (meaning you burn off more calories without doing anything extra) or how fiber promotes weight loss, but I do want you to keep in mind there is way more to what you eat than simply the calories it contains.

This is why when a new client comes to my studio or signs up for my online programs I tell them that there is NO need to count calories.

If you are eating the proper foods at the right times your body will automatically dictate how much food you need and what portions to abide by. All you have to do is slow down, breathe, and listen to your body.

Based on my research, Ive found that it takes about 4-7 days to break your craving urges and about 21 full days to begin to reset your system.

The great news is that you can easily lose 5 pounds your first week of following a real healthy nutrition and exercise plan.
