In last night's Episode 5 of the Biggest Loser, there are two weigh-in's and two people go home. This is catch-up time from last week's one hour episode. After watching his twin brother Dan go home, police officer Dan continues his journey to "throw" the weigh-in and this time gains 6 lbs. at weigh-in, almost making a mockery of the weight-loss-focused show. For two weeks now, the typical American, who doesn't understand the complexities of weight loss/weight gain, has watched contestants gain weight for their own purposes - to go home. So now, the black team is at home, both Don and Dan, where they continue to progress and lose weight. The Ranch is not for everyone. They went home to be with their family.

The others stayed on to be with their new family. Or the one that the Yellow Team has affectionally called "family". Tempers rise as Q [yes, that is his real name] walks away from a workout because he wasn't getting his "burn" - he wasn't burning enough calories, or so he thought. The others kept working out and got through the workout. Unofficial and self-promoted team captain Rulon explains to Q that he wasn't being a team player and that he needed to communicate. Q's response was about himself, his workout, his burn. Rulon again tries to explain that his energy is misguided and all focused on himself when they need to work as a team, esp. during team workouts. Q doesn't seem to get it.

There are some bright spots:

  • Trainer Jillian works with Hannah, who had a back injury 12 years ago and has a fear of getting reinjured. Jillian challenges her and helps her do a back bridge to which Hannah delights "This is a turning point for me. No more fear." Her sister Olivia agrees, "That's who I know is inside of her - that person can do anything."
  • Trainer Bob listens to green team as they come back from spending a week with the unknowns. They got out of their comfort zone for a week and tell how emotionally strong they are now. Bob explains "Thinking, eating, exercise - in that order of importance" telling them how important it is to get your head into it when you are trying to lose weight.
  • Moses, who misses his family and thinks about them in his workouts to motivate himself, "I'm losing this weight for me, but I'm also doing it for my family".

The teams compete in two challenges - one for the Ranch team - if they can beat last week's weight loss of 48 lbs, then they as a team have immunity. One for the Unknown team - working with weights to take out other teams. The ranch team does make their goal and so they have immunity. The yellow team strategizes down to the win and also has immunity for the week. At weigh-in, Q and his wife Larialmy are below the bottom line and therefore, one has to go home. Q again puts himself first as he explains that his wife would rather go home and that he wants to stay. She challenges the "family" that if they really cared, they would do as she wishes. Larialmy goes home where she continues to make progress and loses a total of 74 lbs since coming on the ranch.

The "family" emphasis was overkill on some parts because this is a competition, but real in other parts because everyone [even those at home watching] are affected in some way by their family. And those emotions about your family can really come into play when you are trying to lose weight. So, when it comes to weight loss and your family, there are decisions to be made. A fat reducing review can help you establish a clear outline of what you need to focus on to achieve your fat loss target if you're a novice; or serve as a reminder for the ones who are at an advanced or more improve level of their losing weight strategy. Promptly after are seven steps that can serve as suggestions for your own weight loss program. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not a similar thing. Many weight loss courses have fooled people into considering that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss plans only work by leading to a person's body to reduce more muscle tissue and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor.
