With all the schemes and gimmicks out there to look and feel younger, its no wonder people are confused about what to do to extend their life by years, and even decades. There are creams, machines, surgeries and more that offer eternal youth. But, what works?

The secret to living a long, healthy life really is no secret at all. Take care of your body now and it will take care of you for many years to come. Okay. How do you do that?

Heres five simple, effective ways to live that will help you live a longer, happier life:

  1. Walk. Be active. Like any other machine, your body works best when you use it. Take a walk around the block. Walk at the park. Choose a parking spot far away from the building entrance and walk the extra steps to get there. Every step you take matters. Aim for 10,000 steps a day. If youre new to being active, start slowly. It isnt a race.
  2. Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water.   4. Let go. If you cant change something, put it out of your mind. Accept it, come to terms with it, take it for what it is and move on to other things. You dont have to like it, but there is no sense wasting time and energy on something you cant control.
  5. Stay present. Live in today. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. Today. Children are happy because they are masters of this one task. They dont beat themselves up for silly mistakes they made yesterday and they dont worry about what may or may not happen tomorrow. They are in the here and now and making the most of what they have. Be a child. Live fully in the moment.
