It is almost the end of November, and that means the smorgasbord of goodies that Americans traditionally indulge in from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day is in full swing. Studies have estimated that the average American adult gains from 7-15 pounds of extra weight each year from Halloween to the New Year. We all know that losing weight (or getting healthier) is usually at or near the top of the resolutions list we invariably make each year. If that is the case for yourself, why not jump the gun and make getting healthier one of your gifts to yourself this season. You won't regret it.

One out of every three adult Americans is now considered to be medically obese (with a Body Mass Index over 30), and two out of every three are overweight with a BMI in excess of 25. If you do not know what your own BMI is, then it is time to get on the bathroom scale and punch that number (along with your height) into the online BMI calculator provided by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.

If the idea of getting on a scale now frightens you, imagine how much worse it will be with the whole month of December ahead of you. Making an effort to get healthier now, and losing some weight if that is necessary, will likely get you jumpstarted on reaching a major goal in 2013.

Get on the scale and make a point of LOSING 7-15 pounds this holiday season instead of gaining it. Being active and eating a diet that has fresh fruits and veggies as the primary food sources will help you achieve that goal. Steer clear of sugar in its many forms, such as high fructose corn. Another thing that your body treats much like sugar is alcohol, so try to avoid that also.

Another thing you might want to try is to cut out grains of any kind this season. A fat reduction review can help you produce a clear describe of what you need to focus on to accomplish your fat loss goal if you're a rookie; or serve as a reminder for the ones who are at an advanced or more enhance level of their weight loss plan. Applying are seven steps that can serve as instructions for your personal weight loss program. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not a similar thing. Many weight loss courses have misled people into considering that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss programs only work by resulting in a person's body to reduce more muscle cells and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. More and more people are discovering that removing grains from the diet helps to get rid of the sweet tooth that many of us suffer from.

An excellent book and guide to healthier eating is called TurboCharged by Dian Griesel, Ph.D. and her brother Tom Griesel. Following the advice in the book could help you lose from 15 to 25 pounds (or more) by the time January 1st arrives.

Best of all, if you do start getting healthier and losing a few pounds, not only will you feel better entering the New Year but you will serve as an example to your friends and family. You will enter 2013 more active and a few pounds lighter instead of waking up to the sugar hangover that leads to so many resolutions.
