This past week on the Today Show, Dr. Oz spoke about the foods that he recommends shoppers bring home from the grocery store. He has developed a list of 100 grocery items that he believes will promote health and help cut meal preparation time.
How do these 100 foods rate? Overall, Dr. Oz and his associates did a great job choosing items for the list, including food items that can help busy people quickly make satisfying and wholesome meals.
In keeping with the Dietary Guidelines, Dr. Oz promotes fresh produce, low fat meats and seafood, low-salt canned items, whole grains, and healthy snacks. The list also includes herbs and spices for flavoring foods without adding salt or extra fat.
Dr. Oz also lists various soy options, such as edamame, tofu, soy crumbles, soy burgers and hot dogs. These foods are excellent choices that help keep fat intake low. Other suggestions on the list include time-savers such as skinless chicken, microwavable frozen veggies, and frozen fruits. Frozen foods are wise options--they are just as nutritious as fresh, being frozen quickly after harvesting. Also, buying frozen foods can save money. How many shoppers buy fresh produce with good intentions of preparing soon after purchase, only to find wilted or gooey clumps of green in the refrigerator weeks later?
Newer food items such as chia seeds and agave nectar also made the grocery list. Chia seeds are an excellent source of fiber and antioxidants, and contain omega-3 fatty acids, similar to walnuts and flax. A fat burning overview can help you construct a clear describe of what you need to focus on to carry out your fat burning objective if you're a starter; or serve as a reminder for the ones who are at an intermediate or more advance stage of their losing weight plan. Promptly after are seven steps that can serve as tips for your own weight loss system. The first thing that one must understand is that losing weight and losing fat is not a similar thing. Many weight loss plans have tricked people into considering that it is the same, but most diets and weight loss plans only work by causing a person's body to burn more muscle flesh and water than actual body fat, more help please visit The Fat Loss Factor. Agave nectar is a sweetener made from desert plants found in Mexico. This sweetener has more calories than sugar; however, less sweetener is needed because the nectar is very sweet.
And here are a few suggestions for the grocery list from another vantage point:
- Purchase nonfat milk instead of 2% for those over 2 years of age.
- Unless using a small amount of butter in recipes for flavor, choose soft tub margarines or olive or canola oil instead.
- Look for lower fat versions of most cheeses; the newer varieties have improved flavor.
- Consider an optional juice besides orange juice for those who cannot tolerate citrus.
- Unless one desires the flavor or texture of raw sugar and sea salt, buy the conventional sugar and salt. Raw sugar and sea salt have no special nutrients to add to ones diet.
Dr. Ozs list is a fine starting point for those who want to concentrate on nourishing options from the grocery store.
