Are you ready to lose weight but extremely confused about which program would work for you? Has not wanting to make this decision stopped you from pursuing your weight loss goals entirely?

Now, more than ever, you have to do your homework when trying to find the weight loss program for you. Youre not in a store deciding which soda to purchase. You are making a decision that could, and hopefully will, affect the rest of your life.

How do you know which one to choose? Here are some tips:

1. Research your options. This is not one area you want to impulse buy. With many programs you pay a large sum of money up front, so you want to be happy with your choice. Learn as much as possible about all of the programs available so you make an educated decision. Learn what the programs offer you, the up front and ongoing costs and what is expected of you if you join. Actually visualize yourself using the plan. If you dont feel like it will work for you in your imagination, it probably isnt going to work for you in real life.

2. Dont get sucked into false promises. Usually, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself what your doctor would say if you took the program to them to review. If you know they would tell you not to do it, then you already have your answer. And remember, any program that focuses on losing more than a couple pounds a week is probably not focusing on long term weight loss.

3. Choose a plan that fits you. No plan fits everyones personality or situation. For example, if you barely find time to eat three meals a day, you may find it difficult to work with a plan in which you eat six times a day. It isnt impossible, but you have to be realistic about the changes you would have to make. And, dont expect to change your lifestyle to fit the plan. Sure, youll have to change some of your behaviors but whichever plan you choose should work with your schedule, family situation and income.

4. Choose a plan that focuses its attention on areas you have difficulty with. For instance, if you have your eating pretty much under control and your main issue is getting in physical activity, you may want to choose a program that puts more focus on exercise. Or, vice versa. If you need more help with food portions or emotional eating, you will want to find a program that helps you in those areas. Its important that the program address your specific needs.

5. Whatever program you decide to go with, have the attitude that you WILL succeed. If you walk into it saying, Ill try, then you arent committing to it. Choose it and do it. Your attitude goes a long way in determining your end result.
