The Olympics is the pinnacle of any athletes career. As we enter the second week of the Olympic Games in London it can leave one wondering, how do they do that? Every athlete at the games have reached their peak fitness and are prepared mentally and physically to compete for the greatest prize of their career. To achieve an Olympic medal takes determination, discipline, focus and the proper combination of nutrition and training. Seeing all of those toned bodies can be a great motivator for you to start a workout regimen or take your current one to the next level. Although you might not be aiming for a gold medal that does not mean you dont need a good combination of nutrition and training to keep your body in peak condition to achieve a personal goal you have set for yourself.

When taking your current work out to the next level even if that means you are just starting out you should make sure your nutrition is adequate to insure you have enough fuel to successful make it through your sweat session. Who would know better about fueling your body than the Olympians themselves? Some of Americas greatest athletes, Hope Solo, John Orozco, and Kerri Walsh have found meals and snacks that keep them going through out their training and competitions.

Finally, Kerri Walsh of the U.S. Womens beach Volley Ball team has competed in 3 Olympic Games. She has won a Gold Medal in beach Volley ball in the past two Olympic Games alongside her partner Mist May-Treanor and expects to make this her third. In an interview with SheKnows.com, Walsh revealed that she starts her day out with a breakfast rich in grains, protein and fruit. Her typical breakfast consists of Multi-grain waffles with Almond Butter, agave and Honey. Throughout her competitions and long work outs she does enjoy the occasional simple carbohydrate such as Gatorade to give her the extra boost she needs. Another food combination she enjoys as part of her diet is a salad with Salmon and Goat cheese.
