Kettlebells and CrossFit have taken America by storm this year! It seems every where I look here in Colorado Springs, there is a new CrossFit gym opening up with a bunch of people throwing weights around. CrossFit is a great workout (specifically geared toward Type 2 muscle fiber) and many of these gyms utilize something called kettlebell training which is quickly becoming more and more popular.
So, what are kettlebells? A kettlebell is basically a weighted ball with a handle on it and utilized as a strength training aid, popularized first in Russia, and has moved since to most of Eastern Europe. 3.) When you lift the kettlebell in the air, tilt your pelvis up and tighten your quads, glutes, and abs to protect your hips and back
4.) Start off with 6-10 pounds of weight and increase only when your form is perfected.
There are also numerous youtube videos and tutorials you can watch to help teach you some new moves. All in all, this little Russian artform is taking the States by storm! Don't be afraid of the unknown! Ask a trainer to help you try something new!
